Collaborative Effort Results in Seizures of Gambling Machines and Cash, With More Arrests Pending
Florida’s crackdown on illegal gambling continues, with the Florida Gaming Control Commission (FGCC) teaming up with law enforcement to shut down five illegal casinos and seize more than 500 gambling machines. The operation, conducted in Brevard and Volusia counties, highlights the ongoing efforts to tackle illicit gambling across the state.
A Coordinated Response to Illegal Gambling
In a joint operation with local law enforcement agencies, FGCC agents assisted the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office in executing search warrants at five illegal casino locations. The raid resulted in the seizure of over 500 illegal gambling machines, equipment, and more than $845,000 in cash. Additionally, a 2022 Chevy Silverado, believed to have been used for transporting illicit funds from the casinos, was also confiscated. Criminal arrests related to the illegal operations are currently pending.
Florida Gaming Control Commission Acting Executive Director Ross Marshman emphasized the importance of collaboration in these efforts. “The cooperative relationships developed between the Florida Gaming Control Commission and our partner law enforcement agencies are essential to fulfill our mission,” he stated. “These efforts are making an impact.”
The five illegal casinos raided were located in Palm Bay, Melbourne, and Merritt Island, Florida. Here’s a breakdown of the locations:
- 190 Malabar Road, Suite 121, Palm Bay
- 4940 Stack Boulevard, Suite D1-D2, Melbourne
- 780 Apollo Boulevard, Melbourne
- 1882 North Wickham Road, Melbourne
- 950 North Courtenay Parkway, Merritt Island
More Seizures and Arrests in Volusia County
In addition to the raids in Brevard County, FGCC agents and the Port Orange Police Department also responded to community concerns in Volusia County. Two independently owned businesses were found to be operating illegal gambling establishments. These locations, the Stop & Go Convenience Store and Mark and Jill’s Village Tavern, were raided, leading to the seizure of over $6,000 in cash and 19 illegal gambling machines. Three arrests were made, and charges of operating illegal gambling establishments and illegal possession of slot machines were filed.
This action is part of a broader initiative to address illegal gambling operations that undermine both local law enforcement and the state’s regulated gaming market.
Ongoing Commitment to Public Safety
This recent operation underscores the Florida Gaming Control Commission’s continued commitment to public safety and accountability in the gaming industry. The crackdown on illegal gambling is part of the state’s broader effort to create a safer, more transparent gaming environment. As part of its mission, the FGCC has pledged to continue working with local law enforcement and utilizing innovative strategies to tackle illicit gambling.
