In a significant move, the Danish Gambling Authority has announced that starting from January 1, 2025, all game suppliers must obtain a license to provide games to operators with a Danish license for betting and online casinos. This new requirement aims to enhance regulatory oversight and ensure the integrity of the gaming industry.

The Application Process

Application Window: Game suppliers can submit their license applications beginning September 1, 2024. The Danish Gambling Authority has made the necessary guidance material and application forms available on their website.

Certification: To be eligible, game suppliers must undergo testing and inspection according to the Danish Gambling Authority’s certification program. Accredited testing companies will assess games, game platforms, business procedures, and systems. The certification program ensures compliance with standards and fairness.

Transition Period and Operational Changes

Existing Certifications: Game certificates issued under the current certification program will remain valid. There is no need for additional certifications if a game or system has already been tested and inspected.

New Certification Program: A revised certification program will be introduced, clearly defining responsibilities for operators and game suppliers. It will take effect on January 1, 2025. The Danish Gambling Authority recommends early adoption to ensure a smooth transition.

Games Register and Compliance

Games Register: A new portal for managing game certificates will launch on October 1, 2024. Game supplier applicants will receive login information to upload relevant information and certificates during the application process.

Compliance Deadline: By July 1, 2025, all game suppliers must use the updated certification program. Compliance ensures a transparent and accountable gaming ecosystem.
