Great Canadian Entertainment Sells Casino Nanaimo to First Nation

In a historic transaction, Great Canadian Entertainment, Canada’s leading gaming and hospitality company, has signed a definitive agreement to sell its landmark property, Casino Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island. The buyer is Petroglyph Development Group Ltd. (PDG), a wholly owned corporation of the Snuneymuxw First Nation. Casino Nanaimo, operating since 1986, will now embark on an exciting new chapter under Petroglyph’s management.

The Snuneymuxw First Nation, a Coast Salish People located on Vancouver Island, celebrates this partnership. Chief Mike Wyse expressed commitment to combining Snuneymuxw’s local expertise with the casino’s tradition of outstanding guest service and community contributions. The collaboration promises substantial economic growth for the Nation and the local community.

Economic Potential Unlocked

PDG’s acquisition of Casino Nanaimo unlocks unprecedented economic potential. Beyond the business deal, PDG will also return associated land—a part of the Snuneymuxw xwsol’lexwel village—once the closing is complete. Ian Simpson, PDG’s CEO, emphasizes transformative growth and the positive impact on Snuneymuxw’s economy.
