Aimed at Expanding Inclusivity and Accessibility, the International Gaming Standards Association Overhauls Its Membership Model
The International Gaming Standards Association (IGSA) unveiled a revamped membership structure on December 11, 2024, designed to make the organization more inclusive and affordable for companies of all sizes across the gaming industry.
Previously, IGSA’s membership system was based on a tiered precious metals structure—platinum, gold, silver, and bronze—which reflected a company’s contribution and engagement. The new model, however, aims to broaden access to IGSA’s benefits while ensuring that every member, regardless of size or industry focus, has more privileges to take advantage of.
A Response to Changing Industry Needs
Nimish Purohit, Chairman of IGSA, explained that the decision to revamp the membership structure came as a direct response to the significant changes in the gaming and tech industries. In a statement, he said, “While our membership levels have been stable, the industry has changed dramatically. The Board of Directors wants to expand IGSA and increase inclusivity by making membership affordable to companies from every facet of the industry, including large and small suppliers, content providers, tech-sector companies, and operators.”
The feedback from current and prospective members played a key role in shaping the new structure. IGSA President Mark Pace noted, “Having the ability to impact in-committee actions across membership levels and making membership more attainable were key messages received.” With these insights in mind, IGSA has implemented a model that reduces the financial barriers to entry, ensuring a more diverse and vibrant membership.
New Membership Tiers
The revised structure introduces five distinct membership levels, each with its own privileges:
- Director Level: This tier is aimed at companies that wish to play an active role in setting the strategic direction of IGSA.
- Industry Level: For companies working in both land-based and online sectors of the gaming industry.
- Vertical Level: Designed for businesses specifically within either the land-based or online sectors.
- Operator Level: Targeted at land-based or online casino and sports betting operators.
- Committee Level: For companies interested in participating in only one or two IGSA committees.
This model is designed to allow for greater engagement across various industry segments, ensuring that IGSA remains relevant to both new entrants and established players in the field.
More Affordable and Inclusive Membership
A major highlight of the new structure is the adjustment to membership dues, which have been significantly lowered to make membership more accessible. Previously, dues ranged from $11,200 to $89,500, depending on the level. With the new model, the range has been reduced to between $5,000 and $50,000.
These changes make it easier for companies of varying sizes to participate in IGSA’s efforts and gain the full benefits of membership. The move is part of IGSA’s broader goal to include a wide range of businesses, from tech innovators to small operators, while fostering a more collaborative and dynamic environment.
Board Participation and Voting Rights
Another key shift with the new structure is the increased opportunity for more members to participate in the governance of IGSA. The changes now allow for members from most levels to run for election to the IGSA Board of Directors. This is an important step in ensuring that IGSA remains responsive to the needs of all its members, with broader representation at the leadership level.
Additionally, in-committee voting will now be open to all members involved in committees, allowing for a more democratic process in decision-making. This initiative aims to make the association’s internal workings more transparent and reflective of the diverse interests within the gaming industry.
How IGSA Members Can Benefit
With the new membership structure in place, IGSA is encouraging both current and prospective members to take full advantage of the new privileges. The association has also made details of the membership fees and benefits available on its website, giving companies a clear breakdown of what they can expect from each level.
Companies interested in learning more about the new membership structure can visit the IGSA website to explore the full list of privileges, fees, and benefits.
The move comes at a time when the gaming industry is facing increasing pressures for innovation and collaboration. IGSA’s overhaul could prove crucial for fostering a more inclusive and forward-thinking environment within the industry.
