BetBlocker Expands Multi-Lingual Self-Exclusion Services for Eastern European Communities in the UK

BetBlocker, a leading responsible gambling organization, has unveiled a multi-lingual version of its self-exclusion app, targeting Ukrainian, Polish, and Russian speakers in the UK. This development aligns with the company’s mission to break language barriers and provide accessible support for individuals at risk of gambling-related harm.

Collaboration with Yellow Scarf and GambleAware

To ensure effective implementation, BetBlocker partnered with Yellow Scarf, a charity focused on assisting Eastern European communities in the UK Midlands, and received financial backing from GambleAware. The initiative aims to provide support for those who may struggle to access help due to language barriers.

Duncan Garvie, BetBlocker Founder and Trustee, emphasized the importance of accessibility, saying:

“If a user can’t get our app set up, we’ve failed. Expanding language options is crucial to minimizing gambling harms and ensuring users can easily navigate the setup process.”

Importance of Native Language Support

Providing resources in native languages such as Ukrainian, Polish, and Russian allows users to interact confidently with the app and receive tailored support. Tomasz Jarecki, Yellow Scarf’s Head of Development, highlighted this benefit:

“Having tools available in a user’s own language makes a significant difference, especially for those still working on their English proficiency.”

A Step Towards Broader Responsible Gambling Goals

The initiative’s launch coincides with Safer Gambling Week 2024, a time dedicated to promoting responsible gambling practices. BetBlocker’s expansion reflects the broader industry push to make gambling harm prevention resources accessible to all, regardless of cultural or linguistic barriers.

What’s Next?

BetBlocker plans to continue its growth by expanding language options and collaborating with more organizations to support vulnerable communities. This effort underscores its commitment to innovation and inclusivity in addressing gambling-related harm.
