MGM Resorts International is handing over the reins of its racebook and sportsbook operations in Nevada to BetMGM, the joint venture it shares with Entain. This move is set to reshape the way sports betting is managed under the MGM umbrella, centralising major functions within BetMGM while maintaining MGM’s oversight.
A Strategic Shift for Nevada Operations
The decision to appoint BetMGM as a “key employee” for MGM’s Nevada sportsbooks marks a significant strategic step. In this capacity, BetMGM will assume responsibility for critical functions such as:
- Trading operations
- Customer service
- Risk and fraud management
- Marketing efforts
- Payment processing systems
Attorney Scott Scherer, representing BetMGM, explained that while MGM Resorts will retain ultimate oversight and set policy direction, BetMGM will operate with its own management chain to address day-to-day operations. “When issues arise, they’ll be resolved by the designated MGM Resorts executive,” he added, underscoring a collaborative but structured approach to governance.
Addressing Past Challenges with the App
Before regulators approved this operational shift, BetMGM had to clarify a lapse involving the Nevada version of its mobile sports betting app. The issue arose when unauthorized employees from an Entain subsidiary accessed the app due to a glitch related to bonus-bet adjustments. This access violated the required siloing of the Nevada app from other state operations.
Scherer assured regulators that the problem had been resolved months ago. “Adjustments were made, and there’s no more access,” he stated. With this obstacle cleared, BetMGM’s app is now fully compliant with state requirements, ensuring smooth operations for Nevada users.
Enhanced Features for Nevada Players
Nevada’s sports betting enthusiasts now enjoy an upgraded experience through the BetMGM app. Introduced late last year, the app offers expanded features, including:
- A wider range of pre-game and in-game betting options
- Enhanced parlay options
- Improved deposit and withdrawal processes
One of the standout benefits is the integration of BetMGM Rewards with MGM Rewards. Players in Nevada can now accumulate both BetMGM Rewards points and MGM Rewards tier credits, making the app more appealing to frequent users.
MGM’s House Rules Remain
Despite the operational handover, BetMGM will adhere to MGM’s established house rules for managing sportsbooks and racebooks. This ensures a consistent experience for customers while allowing BetMGM to focus on executing its designated responsibilities effectively.
