Indian Gaming Association Prepares for 40th Annual Tradeshow and Convention in San Diego

The Indian Gaming Tradeshow & Convention is gearing up for its milestone 40th anniversary event, set to take place from March 31 to April 3 at the San Diego Convention Center. Organizers have teased a packed agenda focusing on the future of tribal gaming amid regulatory shifts, technological advancements, and evolving market conditions.

A Pivotal Year for Tribal Gaming

This year’s convention carries added significance as tribal gaming leaders confront emerging challenges, including potential regulatory changes under the Trump Administration. The theme, “The Future of Indian Gaming: The Next Chapter,” underscores the industry’s need to adapt to shifting landscapes.

During a recent webinar, Conference Chair Victor Rocha, Indian Gaming Association (IGA) Chair Ernie Stevens, and IGA Executive Director Jason Giles unveiled preliminary details of the event’s educational lineup. The full schedule, including speaker sessions, will be posted online this week.

Giles noted that this year’s gathering is shaping up to be particularly consequential. “Sweepstakes gaming is an immediate threat,” he said. “On top of that, this sports contract market that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission is thinking of regulating threatens sports betting across the country.”

Key Themes and Conference Tracks

The conference will offer deep discussions on issues ranging from sovereignty to technological shifts. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is currently exploring regulatory oversight of prediction markets, a move that could significantly impact sports betting nationwide. Industry leaders will assess the implications of these developments and strategize their response.

The program includes a variety of educational tracks aimed at addressing different aspects of the gaming industry. These include:

  • Casino and Gaming Operations – Best practices for casino management, marketing strategies, and operational efficiency.
  • Economic Impact and Development – The role of tribal gaming in community growth and sustainability.
  • Emerging Trends – A forward-looking analysis of political, economic, and technological shifts affecting tribal gaming.
  • Interactive Wagering – The rise of online betting and how tribes can position themselves for success.
  • Legal and Tribal Sovereignty – Challenges and opportunities presented by federal and state policies.
  • Regulatory and Compliance – Updates on evolving gaming laws and how to stay ahead.
  • Security and Surveillance – Cybersecurity measures, fraud prevention, and casino safety.
  • Technology and Innovation – AI, blockchain, and the digital transformation of gaming.
  • Player Development – Strategies for attracting and retaining customers.
  • Indian Gaming Association Track – A look at IGA initiatives and advocacy efforts.

One of the most closely watched sessions will be “Sovereignty and Tribal Gaming: Challenges Ahead with the New Trump Administration.” This discussion will examine the potential impact of federal policy shifts on gaming regulations, tribal sovereignty, and land-into-trust procedures.

A Packed Schedule for Attendees

The convention kicks off Monday afternoon with a series of sessions dedicated to online gaming. Speakers will discuss market potential, independent platform development, strategic partnerships, and negotiation tactics.

Tuesday’s agenda is packed with back-to-back educational sessions spanning ten different tracks from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees can expect a mix of expert panels, case studies, and interactive discussions designed to offer practical insights into the future of tribal gaming.

Wednesday and Thursday will see the trade show take center stage, offering vendors and industry professionals the chance to showcase the latest products, technologies, and services tailored to tribal gaming enterprises.

More Than Just an Expo

Rocha emphasized that this event is more than just a typical gaming expo. “It’s our platform for education, strategy, and critical conversations,” he said. “We’re discussing where tribal gaming is heading. With a new [presidential] administration, that conversation is more important than ever.”

Beyond business and policy discussions, the conference will also serve as a networking hub, providing tribes with opportunities to collaborate, share best practices, and forge strategic alliances that will shape the future of Indian gaming.

As the full schedule rolls out next week, attendees can expect a convention that not only addresses pressing industry concerns but also lays the groundwork for long-term growth and sustainability in tribal gaming.
