Pennsylvania Gaming Revenue Hits $496.5 Million in October, Marking Solid Growth

Pennsylvania’s gambling sector has continued its upward trajectory, with the latest data from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board revealing a total revenue of $496.5 million for October 2024. This marks a 2.8% increase compared to the same period last year, showcasing the state’s growing appeal as a gaming hub.

Strong Performance Across the Board

The overall increase in revenue was fueled by growth in several key areas of the gambling industry, including online gaming, casino slots, and sports betting. Notably, some of the state’s largest casinos saw impressive gains in their monthly performance, reflecting a healthy and competitive market for gaming.

Valley Forge Casino Resort was one of the biggest success stories for October. The casino saw a remarkable 25.6% rise in revenue, climbing from $64.4 million in October 2023 to $80.9 million. The growth was driven in part by a significant boost in its online and sports betting segments, with both performing well above last year’s figures.

Online gaming also saw huge year-over-year growth, particularly with Golden Nugget and Bally’s Pennsylvania. Golden Nugget experienced a stunning 109.6% jump in revenue, reaching $6.2 million, while Bally’s Pennsylvania reported a 102.9% increase to $3.8 million. These figures highlight the increasing role of iGaming in Pennsylvania’s overall gaming landscape.

  • Hollywood Casino at the Meadows faced challenges in October, suffering a 37% drop in revenue to $21.5 million.
  • Despite this setback, other venues continued to report strong earnings, suggesting a mixed but largely positive performance across the sector.

Pennsylvania casinos

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Leads the Charge

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course in Grantsville topped all Pennsylvania outlets for October, with $82.5 million in revenue, a solid 6.9% increase over October 2023. The casino’s growth is part of a broader trend that shows how established properties are continuing to attract more visitors and bettors.

Other big players in the state also showed growth. Rivers Casino Philadelphia, which posted a revenue of $53.0 million, saw an 11.4% rise from last year. Rivers Casino Pittsburgh, while more modest in its results, still enjoyed a slight increase in revenue from slots, edging up 1.3% to $21.2 million.

For Parx Casino, one of Pennsylvania’s largest casinos, the slot machines continued to be a major draw, bringing in $31.3 million for the month. This marked a 3.9% increase from October 2023, solidifying Parx’s position as a leader in the state’s casino revenue race. Wind Creek Bethlehem also performed well, generating $23.4 million, up 7.6% compared to last year.

Record-Breaking iGaming Growth

iGaming, in particular, showed no signs of slowing down. In total, the state’s online gaming revenue reached an impressive $189.0 million in October. Hollywood Casino at Penn National was the leader in iGaming revenue, earning $69.4 million, an 11.6% increase from the previous year. Valley Forge Casino Resort saw an even more remarkable 46.6% increase, generating $51.9 million in iGaming revenue, while Rivers Casino Philadelphia posted $33.2 million, a 13.5% year-over-year jump.

  • iGaming has become a key driver of revenue for Pennsylvania’s gaming industry, and its performance continues to exceed expectations.

Sports Betting Revenue Solidifies State’s Gaming Dominance

Sports betting also proved to be a lucrative source of revenue in Pennsylvania. Valley Forge Casino Resort reported $17.3 million in sports betting revenue, with a handle of $348.6 million. This strong performance highlights the growing appeal of sports wagering in the state.

Other casinos also saw notable earnings from sports betting. Hollywood Casino at the Meadows generated $5.8 million in revenue on a $224.9 million handle, while Rivers Casino Pittsburgh brought in $1.0 million on a $33.2 million handle.

These figures suggest that sports betting is solidifying itself as a significant player in Pennsylvania’s gaming industry, and with increasing public interest, its share of total gaming revenue is likely to continue growing.
